How the Academy Vote Works: From Submission to Winner
A plain-language walkthrough of how a film moves from submission to a winner announced at the Awards Gala.
Canada Kids Film Festival does not rely on one universal jury. A film moves through several stages, and each stage answers a different question.
First, an eligibility review checks the basics: that the submission is complete, that the rights are in order and that the film fits the program it entered. This stage is administrative and does not decide who wins anything.
Next, selection reviewers and category juries with the right expertise evaluate eligible films. Canadian productions also move through provincial and territorial recognition before a national evaluation establishes the official nominees. International and other programs have their own pathways to nomination.
Finally, the Academy of Kids Content votes on the nominees, and the winner in each category is decided according to the published award rules. Some categories may also open to a public vote, which runs separately and is announced as its own award.
The exact voting mechanics are set out in the official regulations for each edition.
