Synopsis
For 5,000 years, a kind, naked demon (Bhootham) lived peacefully on Paadikkunnu hill, hidden by golden grass and surviving on roots. However, the constant mockery and ridicule from passing villagers left the demon angry, sad, and deeply ashamed, turning its innocence into rage. The demon began terrifying and killing people, stealing their clothes, transforming into a fearsome, blood-stained monster with sharpened teeth.
In desperation, the villagers performed a ritual, and the eldest Local Priest, who shared a history with the demon, went to meet it. Overwhelmed by the demon's transformation, the Priest offered a pact: the villagers would collect pure white threads for new clothes, but in return, the demon must stop harming people.
The cunning Priest, however, didn't promise to give all the threads. Instead, he devised a trap: anyone who felt the demon following them only needed to pull a thread from their own clothes, roll it up, and throw it behind them. The demon's greed for the thread would cause it to trip and tumble down the hill if it tried to pursue a person instead of using the threads for clothing. Trapped by this deception, the once-terrifying demon is still harmlessly searching for the rolled-up threads on Paadikkunnu to this day.
