Synopsis
UDAN – Desh Ki Beti Ki... is a poignant and powerful short film that follows the journey of Disha, a young girl born into the nomadic and marginalized Dombari community, known for traditional rope-walking street performances.
Caught between the weight of ancestral traditions and the spark of her inner dream, Disha longs for a life beyond the rope — a life where school replaces streets, and books replace baskets. Her mother, Usha, juggles survival and social stigma, while her ailing grandfather silently supports Disha’s silent rebellion.
Set in the rural heartland of Maharashtra, UDAN explores themes of gender equality, child rights, generational change, and the right to education. The narrative delicately blends realism with emotion, capturing the resilience of a girl who chooses hope over helplessness, and action over acceptance.
Produced by Khinnjal Films and directed by Ravisumman, the film is a tribute to the unspoken struggles of India’s forgotten daughters — and to the quiet revolutions that begin with a single step… or a single dream.
